Dermal Fillers
(Hyaluronic Acid) HA

Dermal filler is a gel based treatment injected into the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and to contour the face and create volume.

HA is found naturally throughout the body with the highest concentration found in the joints, eyes and skin.

In the skin HA attracts water, which allows the skin to become more hydrated, this decreases as we age and our skin becomes thin.

This loss of volume leads to a sunken or saggy appearance of the face. Injectable HA is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles and facial folds – these effects are seen immediately, however outcomes and longevity varies from patient to patient and depending on the location of the injection. Results may vary from 6 months to 24 months depending on these factors.

Blood thinners should be stopped two weeks prior to receiving dermal filler injections and if you are prone to cold sores (herpes simplex viral infection) and you are planning on having dermal fillers to your lips you should be prescribed prophylactic antivirals in the form of Valacyclovir 500mg BD two days before and for three days after you receive dermal filler injections to your lips.

You cannot receive dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breast feeding or if you are on current immunosuppressive therapy.
